Greenville, Illinois – With more than 2,000 nominating signatures in hand, 54th District State Senate Candidate George Barber filed petitions for the March 20, 2018 Primary Election at the State Board of Elections in Springfield.
“I am grateful to the citizens of the 54th Senate District who signed petitions and helped me to reach this first campaign goal,” Barber said. While this is an important first step, our work has just begun.”
Barber announced his candidacy last month and said he would model his representation of the people on principled conservatives such as Ronald Reagan (on whose campaign he worked while in college), former State Sen. Frank Watson and current State Sen. Kyle McCarter.
“My top priority is the recovery and restoration of the Illinois economy,” Barber said. “Illinois has too much to offer in the way of a dynamic education system and a well-trained workforce to settle for the status quo. We need to reduce regulation, taxation and litigation to put our families and friends back to work. We need a sustainable economic environment to create opportunity and prosperity for workers today and our children tomorrow.”
Monday, November 27 was the first day for candidate filing. The filing period continues through December 4, 2017.
The 54th Senate District covers all of Bond, Clinton, Fayette and Marion Counties and parts of Effingham, Madison, St. Clair and Washington Counties.
