|My name is George Barber. I am conservative Republican running for the Illinois State Senate in the 54th District. I have been married for 29 years to my beautiful wife, Lisa, and together we have raised five children in our public schools in Illinois.
This is my first time running for public office, having spent 30 years in higher education, both as a professor and basketball coach. For the last 19 years, I have invested my time and talents into students at Greenville University (formerly College), speaking into thousands of lives who will make up the next generation of leaders … many of whom will raise families, build businesses and serve communities in “our Illinois.”
I believe in our people and in our state, and I am running for you, not for any political entity or lobbyist group. I am running for State Senate to give the voters in the 54th District a voice and choice in support of a responsible, transparent and accountable state government.
Illinois is a great state, and I am thankful to live here. We have great teachers, great workers, and an excellent gross domestic product. With eighty percent of our state employed in agriculture, we serve as home to thousands of farmers who are literally feeding the world.
But our great state is in a great state of crisis, including burdensome small business regulations, friends and neighbors leaving Illinois for neighboring states, soaring property taxes, unfunded mandates in education, and massive debt. Our citizens are crying out for strong leadership in our government.
If elected as your representative in Springfield, I will fight for a balanced budget, I will never vote to raise your taxes, and I will insist on pro-family, pro-life, pro second amendment and the “rule of law” principles. I will also work to repeal laws like HB40, which mandates taxpayer-funded abortions.
These are critical days for our state. Great challenges lay ahead, but we must act … for our families, for our communities, and for “our Illinois.” I’m asking for your vote at the primary on March 20.
Let’s seek our bright future together,
